The ability to speak a foreign language is affected by many different things, and not one person can define how things can affect every individual. Canagarjah explains that translingualism helps an individual’s confidence in that second language they are either speaking or listening to. Unfortunately this is not true for everyone, and this along with a teacher who isn’t good or supportive can affect someone’s confidence. My experience was just one out of, I’m sure, the many examples that go against Canagarajah’s idea. But not matter your confidence level, you will never be able to speak that language unless you try.
